The latest edition of the Watchtower publication Awake! has a full-page spread on the topic of Russian Wood Painting.[1]

Why does Watchtower use space in its journals for such material when there is information it has yet to publish that could mean the difference between good or bad outcomes for serious medical conditions?

Blood product transfusion

In year 2000 the Watchtower organization revamped its blood doctrine with a result that blood products such as hemoglobin and cryosupernatant could be accepted for transfusion by Jehovah’s Witnesses without repercussion of its dreaded organized communal shunning program.[2]

It took Watchtower six years before making it clear to the community of Jehovah’s Witnesses they are free to accept transfusion of hemoglobin if the need arises and they so desire.

It is now eleven years since 2000 and Watchtower has yet to make it clear to the community of Jehovah’s Witnesses they are free to accept transfusion of cryosupernatant if the need arises and they so desire. Eleven years! This lack of information from Watchtower is despite observation by physicians that Witnesses who did learn of the product and that they were free to accept it gained medical benefit from the therapy.

Donating blood for transfusion

Another change arising since year 2000 is that under Watchtower’s blood doctrine Jehovah’s Witnesses are free to donate blood for purposes of it being “fractionated” and transfused to other Witness patients, or others who are in need of the same blood products.[3]

It is now eleven years since 2000 and Watchtower has yet to make it clear to the community of Jehovah’s Witnesses they are free to donate blood to help others in need so long as that blood is sufficiently fractionated before the products are transfused.

The Priority?

That such information is not published and made clear by Watchtower to the greater community of Jehovah’s Witnesses is telling given that Watchtower does have the time and space in its journals to publish information on subjects such as Russian wood painting.

Readers can decide for themselves what this says of Watchtower’s priorities.
