-- We must abstain from taking life. (Gen. 9:5-6)
-- But we can donate life to save life. (John 15:13; see note 1)

-- We must abstain from taking blood. (Gen. 9:4)
-- So can we donate blood to save life?

If “abstain from taking life” does not forbid “donating life to save life” then “abstain from taking blood” does not forbid "donating blood to save life".

-- We must abstain from taking life.
-- But we can accept life donated on our behalf.(2)

-- We must abstain from taking blood.
-- But can we accept blood donated on our behalf?

If “abstain from taking life” does not forbid “accepting life donated on our behalf” then “abstain from taking blood” does not forbid “accepting blood donated on our behalf.”

Contemporary blood transfusion is of blood donated for the purpose of saving another person’s life. It is okay to donate our blood for this purpose and it is okay to accept transfusion of blood donated for this purpose. The Bible says so.

End notes:

1. “To save life” refers not to granting eternal salvation but rather to preventing premature death by donating/sacrificing our own life. (See John 15:13 and 1 John 3:16)

2. “Accept life” refers to accepting someone’s donating/sacrificing their life to prevent our premature death.
