The Watchtower organization has for years and years taught that no one would find one of Jehovah’s Witnesses pledging allegiance to any particular country. It turns out the organization’s top leadership had been doing this very thing for decades, even when its membership was being severely persecuted for refusing such allegiance.
For Jehovah’s Witnesses this is very distressing to read. To the person nearly every one has suffered some form of persecution for refusing acts of national allegiance, such as standing for a national anthem at a school or social event, or signing national oaths of allegiance for employment purposes.
Jehovah’s Witnesses have been teased, fired, tarred and feathered, beaten, raped and even murdered over this doctrine. The entire time the organization’s top leadership was pledging the national oath of allegiance to the United States of America.
